Review of the film Laapataa Ladies: analysis of the scenario

The interesting story of writer Biplab Goswami has echoes in real life, because such stories happened in real life in North India, and in fact, there are gangs involved in such cases , so that the “brides” can later decamp with money and jewelry. But here the script takes a refreshing turn in the last 25 minutes or so.

Sharp dialogues and a clear storyline without an extra second of sequence mark Laapataa Ladies. A dialect and even the nuances of pronunciation and diction are faithfully and consistently respected in this film. Sneha Desai has written a gripping screenplay and her dialogues (with Divyanidhi Sharma) are not only realistic but immensely witty and humorous.

Some of the best lines are reserved for Phool, Deepak’s lost wife, and the tea stall owner (Chhaya Kadam), who is Phool’s savior and protector at the station where she alighted. Not only does she teach Phool some of the basics of womanhood as an independent entity, but she also admires her complete belief that the man she loves will come for her.
There are also cute and incisive lines for Deepak’s parents (played by Geeta Agarwal Sharma and Pankaj Sharma) and especially for the cop who is investigating the two women, Phool and Pushpa Rani.

The storyline takes a relentlessly realistic and logical path, while retaining the fun quotient as the undercurrent to the story which, at its core, has both tragic and comic elements. The cop’s first reaction when Deepak recounts his woes is amusement at having “achieved” something he could never do with his own wife! On the other hand, the script gives it a climax with some powerful lines that are sure to win over the audience, confirming what director and co-producer Kiran said: that Aamir Khan had wanted to play the role!

Laapataa Ladies movie review: star performance

With everything going right for them, only bad actors can do wrong. And casting director Romil skillfully recruited accomplished performers. Nitanshi Goel as the cute and idealistic old world bride is exceptional. It is difficult to choose between Pratibha Ranta and her when it comes to acting honors because Pratibha’s character has a very interesting graph of a girl who is afraid of police but has a warm relationship with Deepak’s bhabhi and the young nephew of someone who arouses the cop’s concern. suspicion by his activities.

Sparsh Shrivastava is perfect, as are the myriad of actors who play his family and friends. Special marks include Geeta Agarwal Sharma as her mother, Pankaj Sharma as her father, Kirti Jain as her grandmother and Rachna Gupta as her bhabhi.

However, apart from the heroines, the two scene stealers are Chhaya Kadam as Phool’s benefactor, Manju Maai and Ravi Kishan as Shyam Manohar, the cop. Special kudos are also due to Durgesh Kumar as his dense assistant Dubey-ji (his last remark about going far in life is hilarious!) and Satendra Soni as Choti, the assistant of Manju.

Review of the film Laapataa Ladies: direction, music

But ultimately, Laapataa Ladies is Kiran Rao’s triumph. His last (and first) film as a director was Dhobi Ghat, a middling film with a niche appeal even though Aamir Khan was the protagonist. This time, she improves considerably as a filmmaker to make something that simply ranks among Aamir Khan’s best productions (Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, Delhi Belly, Dangal and Secret Superstar are part of this list of elite) and which imposes itself with a vengeance.

Kiran’s high ratings are due to the way she handles the various police station sequences, the endearing moments between Manju Maai and Phool, the drunken sequence between Deepak and his friends and the complete surprise of a climax.

And we have some decent songs composed by a single entity: Ram Sampath, who, in classic Hindi cinema tradition, also composes the appropriate background music. Dheeme dheeme, sweetly sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Sukhwinder Singh’s fiery Doubtva, are also extremely meaningful in their lyrics, which are penned by Swanand Kirkire and Divyanidhi Sharma respectively. Prashant Pandey also pens the significant Beda paar, which is decently sung by Sona Mohapatra. Arijit Singh is fine in sajni, but keeps mispronouncing the Hindi sound ‘ta’.

Laapataa Ladies Movie Review: The Last Word

So the film is not only value for money entertainment but a film that you will take home with its progressive angles, not only for women but also for society. He uses the coating of some delicious flavors of village life to feed the audience with some homilies without forcing them to swallow psychologically.

Four and a half stars!
